Now that the new and improved Reframer is here, we'll be retiring the old version of Reframer on 1 December, 2022.

There's nothing you need to do. If you have studies in Reframer v1, they will be automatically moved into the new version on 1 December.

Why did we change Reframer from the original version to the new version?

The original Reframer was acquired by Optimal Workshop in 2015 as a note-taking tool. We knew it had promise, but it needed to be built out in order to serve a qualitative research workflow.

Qualitative research, such as interviews and usability tests, is the most regularly used research method. We wanted to support our customers in conducting qualitative research within Optimal Workshop and Reframer, as it was, didn’t serve this as best it could.

What problems does the new Reframer solve?

  • Research data and findings are often scattered because the tools people use are not connected. This results in reduced research validity, wasted time and lost IP. Reframer removes the need for multiple tools when conducting qualitative research.

  • It makes the process easy for people doing research (whether they’re new to it, or seasoned pros) by having each activity within a qualitative research workflow in one tool, and in the order you’d complete them in (i.e. start with creating your sessions and discussion points, end with analyzing your data).

  • There is growing demand for qualitative research, and for this research to be done more regularly and faster. It’s easy to create and manage multiple qual studies in Reframer, alongside your other Optimal Workshop studies. And with all your observations and metadata in one tool, it’s much quicker to find the insights you need.

  • There aren’t many tools out there specifically built for the entire qual research workflow. Analysis is a creative and flexible process, but current tools don’t facilitate the process as well as they could as they’re rigid and need to be used in conjunction with each other. Reframer gives you the flexibility to do different types of analysis in one tool.

  • There’s a lot of repetition when conducting qual analysis - a lot of copy/pasting from one tool to the other. Reframer connects all your data from beginning to end, saving you time and energy.

What will happen to my studies in Reframer v1?

If you’ve got current studies in v1, you don’t need to do anything. We’ll automatically transfer them over to the new version of Reframer on 1 Dec 2022.

Before then, you can always view your studies in the new version by clicking the “View in v2” toggle.

What happens if I’m currently using Reframer v1?

If you’re currently conducting a study in v1, that study will be transferred to the new version on 1 Dec 2022. In the meantime, we’d suggest you have a play round with the new version. It’s easy, all you need to do is click the “View in v2” toggle and everything in your study is accessible in the newest version.

You’ll also see how-to videos and links to Help Center articles in each of the tabs of the new version. These will help you get the hang of how to use it quickly.

Once v1 is switched off, what if I have issues with the new version or my studies transferring over?

We’re doing our absolute best to make sure the transfer process runs as smoothly as possible (we’ve been working on it for a long, long time!) If, however, there are any issues, we’re here to help. Simply email or create a ticket in the Resource Center and we can help you out.
