The Study Flow tab gives you a clear and organized way to build and manage your live site test from start to finish.
With the Study Flow tab, you can:
Review your study at a glance: Visualize and understand the participant experience step-by-step.
Duplicate tasks and questions: Quickly replicate screening questions, study questions, and live site tasks.
Collapse and expand sections: Navigate easily and focus on the parts you want to edit.
Sections in Study Flow
Each section in the left panel represents a key part of your study:
Welcome
Customize a greeting for participants to introduce them to your study.
Toggle on/off
Participant Agreement
Add any necessary agreements participants need to consent to before proceeding.
Toggle on/off
Screening Questions
Ensure the right audience completes your study.
Choose from radio buttons, dropdown selects, or checkbox selects.
Edit your rejection message or choose to add a redirect URL.
Participant Identifier
Collect identifiers, if needed, to match participants to their responses.
Choose from anonymous, email, or enter in your own identifier.
Study
Toggle on/off instructions and edit the instruction text.
Add a live site task and/or questions.
To add a live site task, use the Live-site link option to add your task and paste any website URL link.
Thank You Screen
Show a closing message to thank participants for their time and effort.
You can also choose to add a redirect URL here.
Closed Screen
Customize a message to inform participants if the study is no longer accepting responses.
You can also choose to add a redirect URL here.
Live site testing Study Flow updates
Please note that the Study Flow experience for live site tests includes updates not yet available in other Optimal tests.
For the live site tests Study Flow, pre-study, post-study, post-task, and task sections are combined into a single Study section, allowing you to have the full flexibility to place tasks and questions in any order.
Creating and updating questions and tasks
Add
Click the + button to add new tasks or questions.
No code or plugins required—just paste the website URL.
Test any live website or web app (production, staging, competitor sites, or AI-generated prototypes).
Add unlimited tasks and questions.
Test multiple websites in one study by pasting different URLs.
Edit
Click any section, question, or task in the left panel and use the right panel to make edits.
Duplicate
Click the three dots next to a question or task to duplicate it.
Delete
Click the three dots next to a question or task to delete it.
Reorder
Drag and drop items within the same section to reorder them. Currently, items cannot be moved across different sections.
Previewing your site and study
Once you add a URL under Live-site link, a preview of the website will appear automatically.
To preview the full participant experience, click Preview in the top-right corner.
