Learn about the different kinds of clickmaps in first-click testing and when you'd want to use them.

Updated over 4 months ago

The clickmaps are your main source of data on your first-click testing results. You'll see your wireframe or screenshot, and the heat zone with a percentage of participants who clicked in each area.

What the different clickmaps show you

There are 3 different clickmaps you can view: heatmap, grid and selection. They'll show you with accuracy where participants clicked to respond to the tasks you set for them. Above the clickmap, you can see how many clicks occurred, which is how many participants completed the task. You'll also see how many participants skipped the task, and the average time taken.

Each task and clickmap is shown individually. You can navigate between clickmaps by using the arrow buttons on the top right corner, or using the drop down menu to choose which number you want to view.

You can view clickmaps in 4 different ways

You have 4 options for viewing your clickmaps, including both a color and grayscale heatmap.

Grayscale view

Grayscale heatmaps remove the color from your wireframe or screenshot, and leave the clicked parts of the image in color. This view will make viewing your results easier if your webpage contains colors that conflict with the heat zones.

If you want to download your first-click testing results on PDF, you will only see the colored version. To export the grayscale view, take a screenshot and save it to your files.

Grid view

The grid view displays the clicked areas highlighted, and shows the percentage of people who clicked in that squared area. You have two options for customizing this view. You can show individual clicks, as well as the colored grids and percentages. Or you can simplify the view and remove the individual clicks.

You can also change the grid size, which will automatically change the size of the grids, and the percentages inside each grid.

If you want to download your first-click testing results on PDF, you will only see the colored version. To export the grid view, take a screenshot and save it to your files.

Selection view

You can select parts of the wireframe or screenshot and view the results in the selected part only. When you highlight the area you want to select, you will see the number and percentage of clicks that occurred in that selected part.

To keep a record of this data, take a screenshot of the image with the selected area and save it to your files.
