How to resync your Figma file in Optimal
If you need to update your prototype in Figma, you can easily re-sync it by clicking ‘Re-sync to file’ from the below tab.
What are the impacts in Optimal if I don’t resync my Figma file?
If you make a change to Figma and don’t re-sync your prototype, the live view that your participants see will reflect the change, but the flat images on our side won't. If your study is live and you update the Figma file, the file will affect the results of any further participants.
What are flat images?
When you import a study, the frames in your Figma file are imported into Optimal as flat images which are used for thumbnails and click maps. Unless you re-sync, changes to your frames, such as fixing spelling errors or deleting/adding a frame, won’t be reflected on our end.
Where are flat images used?
The thumbnails when selecting a task starting screen
The thumbnails when selecting a task destination screen
The thumbnails show you the correct answers you have set
The thumbnails on the paths tab in the analysis tab that show each step of your participant journey.
The clickmaps in the analysis tab and their respective thumbnails
How do you preview your prototype in Optimal?
There are a few ways to view a preview of your prototype test to ensure it is working as you expect to test.
You can see a preview your prototype from Set up > Prototype > Prototype Preview.
2. You can review your Prototype in the task setup's ‘set correct pathway’ modal. You can click through and check if it’s working as expected.
3. Another way to preview your Prototype is by testing it from the Participant's view. Go to the Recruit tab and copy the Study link. Paste the URL, and take your test to see how the prototype works from the participant experience.
What happens if you resync while the study is live?
If you need to update a correct pathway or destination screen, the answer may be removed or affected. We recommend going back and checking whether the correct answers to a task have been affected by the change.
Making changes to a correct answer will be retroactively applied to the paths of all participants. Still, if you have changed something in the prototype, responses gathered before the change will no longer reflect the prototype, and we suggest excluding them from your results.
What happens if I edit, add, or delete a flow connection while my study is live?
If you add a connection to an existing frame, your participants can use it as intended. If the new connection leads the participant to an existing frame (one that has been imported), the step in their path will be shown as usual. If you are adding a connection that leads to a new frame, you must resync your file to import the new frame.
If you delete a connection, your participants cannot use it anymore. If this connection affects a correct answer pathway, go back to setup and check that the set answer to that task has not been affected.
If you change a flow connection, your participants can use the changed connection as intended. Assuming the connection leads to an imported frame, the pathway will be reflected in all further participants. Again, you must resync if you add a new frame for this connection.
What if I delete or add a frame while my study is live?
If you delete a frame, future participants cannot visit it. However, if any of your existing participants visited that frame during their path, you will see it in their pathway.
If you add a frame and don’t resync, participants can visit it, but it will not be visible on their path during analysis. If you need to add a new frame, return to setup and resync your prototype.
