Chain multiple studies together

You can chain multiple studies together by using the Redirect URL setting. Here's what you need to know.

Updated over a week ago

Chaining studies together allows your participants to move directly from one study to another! The results of chained studies cannot be merged, and will remain seperate in your Workspace.

To chain multiple studies together, you will require you to use the Redirect URL setting in tree testing, card sorting, first-click testing, prototype testing or surveys.

Set up a Redirect URL

  1. Set both of your studies live.

  2. Copy the study link of the second study in your chain.

  3. In the first study, navigate to the 'Messages & instructions' tab, then paste the study link into the Complete redirect URL field.

You can test that your studies are chained by pasting the first study link into your browser and giving it a go!

Identifying participants in chained studies

When you are using a Participant identifier, you can also add a short token to the Completed redirect URL to carry that identifier over through both chained studies!

The short token looks like this:

?=[ENTRY]

Make sure to test that the identifier is carrying through properly by testing it out yourself.

Results of chained studies

Please bear in mind that the results of both studies will be totally seperate. It is not possible to merge the results of the studies.

If you wish to ask your participant any pre or post-study questions, consider wisely which study you want to ask these in. Any filtering or segmenting will only be available in that study.

You can always export the results of both studies via the 'Downloads' tab of your results if you wish to combine them manually.

Chaining studies is great but don't go overboard

You can chain as many studies together as you like, provided that your participants are not overwhelmed by the length and effort of the task. Always test out your studies, and consider the cognitive load of your participants to ensure you receive robust results.
