Learn about setting up your recording preferences and video recording limites

Updated this week

Video recording is currently available via our closed beta. If you are an admin on a Teams or Enterprise plan, you can register your interest in the beta via this form.

How to get set up

Video recording is supported by browser technology, so it’s easy to add on to your studies with no plug in required.

The recording can include a participant's face, screen, and/or voice. Screen recording, audio recording, and camera recording can each be turned on/off for each study.

  1. Go to Setup > Settings under a Prototype Test to customize your preferences for the video recording feature. If the video recording feature is not yet visible, please contact your admin to enable this feature for your organization.

  2. Set your criteria for recordings

    1. Select Optional, Required or Off for Screen recording, Audio recording, & Camera recording

    2. Recording settings cannot be changed after the study launches.

Please note that recording capabilities are available for all Mac and Windows up-to-date browsers on desktop.

  3. If any of the recording criteria you specified are not met, you can choose to:

    • Forward the participant to a non-recording link
      or

    • Prevent the participant from entering the study

If you choose to the 'forward the participant to a non-recording link' option, the participant can complete the study but won't have their audio, video, and screen recorded.

Settings your preferences for the mobile experience

Here are a number of options available to you depending on your preference.

Screen sharing is not available for mobile across all browsers.

  1. Turn Screen recording Off.

    • All participants: Collect camera and audio recordings for participants accessing the study. No screen recordings will be captured for any participants.

  2. Set Screen recording to Optional.

    • Mobile participants: Audio and/or video recordings are captured.

    • Desktop participants: Screen, audio, and/or video recordings are captured.

  3. Set Screen recording to Required.

    • Mobile participants: You have the option under settings to choose whether to:

      • Forward the participant to a non-recording link
        or

      • Prevent the participant from entering the study

    • Desktop participants: Screen recordings and audio and/or video will be captured.

How to recruit participants for video recording

To recruit participants, go to the Recruit tab to copy to request Managed Recruitment -full service recruitment support from Optimal - or recruit on your own by sharing the unique video recording link with study participants. Please note that this is a separate URL to the non-video recording URL.

Recruitment for video recording using our On-Demand Panel is not available during the closed beta period.

There is a limit of 100 video recording participants per Workspace. For more information about how video recording limits work, please read below.

How video recording limits work

For the closed beta release, there will be a limit of 60 minutes of recording per participant per study and 100 participant recordings per Workspace.

Once the participant limit is reached, the video recording recruitment URL will remain active but will capture results without video recording.

Usage limits will be shown under Setup > Settings > Video Recording to show how many participant recordings are available. Customers can also click the call-to-action to request an increase.
