Setting your details, preferences and goals with the Setup section

Learn about the Setup section under your Optimal Usability Test.

This guide explains the key settings available when creating or configuring a study: Study Details, Study Goals, Recording, and Privacy.


Study Details

This section includes the basic information and structure of your study.

  • Study Name (Required)
    The title of your study. This helps you and your team quickly identify the study.

  • Project & Folder
    Choose where to store your study within a project or folder. This helps keep your research organized and easy to navigate.

  • Study Description (Required)
    A clear summary of the study’s purpose, context, or background. This helps collaborators understand what the study is about and why it’s being conducted.

  • Study Languages
    Select one language for your study. This will apply to your entire study and determine the language used to generate transcripts, insights, and citation quotes.

Study Goals

The Study Goals section is where you define what you want to learn from your research.

  • Enter clear, specific goals to guide your study.

  • These goals will help to surface more relevant insights under the Results section.

  • Well-defined goals will improve the quality of automated insights, making them more focused.

Recording

This section controls how participant sessions are captured.

You can configure the following recording options with Off, Optional, or Required:

  • Camera

  • Audio Recording

  • Screen Recording

Notes

  • For live site testing, vibe-coded prototypes, and spoken questions, audio recording will automatically be set to required.

  • For live site testing or vibe-coded prototypes, screen recording will be automatically set to required.

  • If screen recording is required, participants completing studies using mobile devices (mobile phones and tablets) will be prompted to download and complete the study using Optimal's Participant app. Learn more about the participant experience.

Privacy

This section helps you manage participant privacy and data organization.

  • Password Protection
    You can require a password to restrict access to the study. Only participants or users with the password can access the study.

  • Participant Identifier
    Assign or collect a participant identifier for each user.
