Optimal helps teams test and validate ideas to create better, more intuitive products and user experiences.
If you’ve been invited to take part in a prototype test on your mobile device, you’ll need to download the Optimal Participant app for Android or iOS.
Getting started is quick and easy:
Download the Optimal Participant app.
Click on a study link in your invite. If you haven't yet downloaded the app, you’ll be directed to the Google Play Store or App Store.
Open the app and enter your study link.
Your link will include optimalworkshop.com/prototype.
Join the study.
You can either copy and paste the link from your invite or scan the QR code.
Set your permissions.
Depending on the study, you may need to grant permissions for microphone, camera, and/or screen sharing/recording before proceeding. This helps to capture your feedback to help teams better understand your experience.
The app may ask for:
Microphone
Camera (front-facing only)
Screen recording
Screen broadcast
You'll only need to allow audio and camera once. Screen recording and broadcasting permissions will be requested each time you participate.

Once you hit Start task, the Task box will automatically minimize. As you complete each task, speak your thoughts out loud.
There are no wrong answers or moves. Just share your honest opinions and talk through your process.
The more detail you provide, the more insights can be gleaned from your participation to drive change and guide improvements.
You have the option to move the task box around your screen or expand the task.
Once you're done with the task, simply hit the Finish task button. Note that the study creator may have selected the option for tasks to end automatically. In this case, the Finish task button will not be visible, and you'll automatically move to the next task once you've reached the correct destination.
Privacy note: Your data is safe. The app only collects information needed for the study, and all data is encrypted and secure.
Note that this app is designed for study testers and participants. You cannot create new studies or edit existing studies with this app.
