Video recording is currently available via our closed beta. If you are an admin on a Teams or Enterprise plan, you can register your interest in the beta via this form.
When running a prototype test with video recording in Optimal, it’s important to configure your settings based on your preferences and to understand the available options for recording mobile participants.
Key Considerations for Screen Recording on Mobile Devices
Screen sharing recording is not available for participants using mobile devices, regardless of the browser they use.
Here’s what you can expect with the different screen recording options available:
Turn Screen recording Off.
All participants: Collect camera and audio recordings for participants accessing the study. No screen recordings will be captured for any participants.
Set Screen recording to Optional.
Mobile participants: Audio and/or video recordings are captured.
Desktop participants: Screen, audio, and/or video recordings are captured.
Set Screen recording to Required.
Mobile participants: Will be automatically excluded from video recording and sent the non-video recording study link. No recordings, including audio or video, will be collected.
Desktop participants: Screen recordings and audio and/or video will be captured.
Recruiting mobile participants with Optimal
Optimal Recruitment
For full-service recruitment support from our in-house team, we recommend Managed Recruitment for prototype tests. If you have set screen recording as Optional or Required, our team reviews each recruited participant to allow desktop only participants to ensure that you receive screen recordings.
Recruitment for video recording is not currently available with Optimal’s On-Demand Panel.
To begin recruitment, go to the Recruit tab on each study to submit a request. Read more about our Optimal recruitment services here.
Recruiting mobile participants on your own
If you have Screen recording set as Optional, then you can share out the video recording study link to capture audio and/or video recordings for mobile participants.
If you wish to only capture desktop participants, then you can add a screener question e.g. Are you currently accessing this study on a desktop or mobile device? to filter out mobile participants.
